Incident Information

Bay Area Pedestrian Struck by Toyota Corolla on Interstate 680 Resulting in Death

Tragically, Timoteo Fernandez-Ortiz of Pittsburg was killed early Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 680. According to California Highway Patrol spokesperson Officer Adam Lane, the collision happened around 4:35 a.m. near the Treat Boulevard exit and the driver of a Toyota Corolla had no choice but to make impact with Fernandez-Ortiz who had been in the lanes of traffic at the time. It is suspected that a second vehicle might have also made contact, and authorities are looking for any further witnesses that may have seen the incident. The crash blocked the major freeway for some time, diverting traffic to alternate routes. Two lanes of the road opened at 5:20 a.m. and all lanes opened at 6 a.m.
