Incident Information
Car Accident Kills Three at Riverside Ave and Valley Blvd in Rialto
Three people were killed and at least two others were injured in a fiery crash involving seven vehicles in Rialto Monday evening. The crash occurred at the intersection of Riverside Avenue and Valley Boulevard at 6:30 p.m. Three passengers, including the driver who caused the crash, died at the scene. Ashley Gilroy, age 33, and her 8-year-old daughter, Marlee Maldonado, both of Highland, were killed in the crash. The driver was a man in his 30s who was believed to have been driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee at speeds of 90 mph. Witnesses told Rialto police that the vehicle was speeding and lost control before colliding with several other cars.
The impact of the crash caused several of the vehicles to catch fire, and all three occupants of the Jeep were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers in one of the other cars were also injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. At least one car burst into flames in a horrific car crash that killed Gilroy and her daughter while they were inside the vehicle. Two of the other passengers were transported to the hospital with injuries, and possibly one or two more victims were treated and released at the scene. The driver who caused the crash may have been under the influence, and speed was also a factor. A press release with more information is expected to be released later this morning.
