On Saturday afternoon, Lanell Whitfield was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident on Martin Luther King Boulevard. The incident occurred at 3:32 p.m., near Beechwood Avenue, and emergency crews quickly responded to the scene. Reports indicate that a caller reported seeing a motorcycle on fire with its rider down on the ground. It is not yet clear whether the motorcycle crashed into another object or not.

However, due to the extent of injuries sustained, officers pronounced Whitfield dead at the scene. Whitfield was just 25 years old and had only been an officer in the Whittier Police Department since October. An investigation is currently underway to determine how the crash happened.
