1 Killed, 3 Injured in Head-On Crash on Vasco Rd. in Contra Costa County

Tragedy struck on Wednesday afternoon near Byron when a head-on crash on Vasco Road claimed one life and left three other individuals injured. The incident happened around 2 p.m. and also involved a third vehicle. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, with multiple ambulances and at least two helicopters dispatched to transport victims. As of 3 p.m., the road south of Camino Diablo remained closed in both directions.

Reports state that the main vehicles involved were a van and a pickup truck which left several people injured after the vehicles collided. A previous report indicated that 10 individuals were injured in this head-on crash. However, a public information officer has since come forward to correct this number. The victims were taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where they received medical treatment. Two individuals had to be extricated from the vehicles they were in 17 minutes apart, further adding to the severity of the situation. The identities and current conditions of those involved in the crash remain unknown besides a 31 and 40 year old man.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Spokesperson Steve Hill states that if commuters were planning on using a particular road this evening, it seems that they may need to find an alternate route. According to Hill, it’s looking like the road closure will be ongoing into the evening.
