Pedestrian Run Over by Multiple Vehicles on Highway 580 in Oakland 

A tragic incident occurred late Sunday evening along westbound Interstate Highway 580 in California. The California Highway Patrol received a call at around 11:35 p.m. from a driver reporting that a man flew in front of her vehicle near the Harrison Street off ramp. It was later confirmed by the CHP that the person was run over by multiple vehicles and sadly did not survive. The driver who called in to report the incident believes she did not hit the person. 

Although officers were on their way to the scene, a number of vehicles ran over the man, which prompted the CHP to issue a SigAlert at 11:54 p.m. As a result, the freeway had to be shut down for some time and has since been reopened. Oakland police also received a call from a concerned citizen who saw a black sedan with front-end damage off the Harrison Street off ramp near the time of the accident. The driver of the vehicle was reportedly asking people for help jump starting the car, but it is unclear if this vehicle was involved in the collision that killed the man. Despite the tragic loss, it is important for authorities to determine the cause of the accident in hope of bringing justice to the victim’s family.

This heartbreaking incident reminds us all to take caution while on the roads and to always be aware of our surroundings.
