Pedestrian Killed by Stolen Car While Walking on Sidewalk in San Jose 

Early Sunday morning, tragedy struck the Castlemont neighborhood when a man was fatally hit by a stolen car while walking on the sidewalk. The incident occurred around 3:22 a.m. near Winchester Boulevard and Walgrove Way, prompting an immediate response from the San Jose Police Department. The vehicle responsible for the fatal collision was a 2019 Hyundai SUV, traveling northbound on Winchester Boulevard when it veered off the road and onto the sidewalk, striking the unsuspecting pedestrian.

The car, occupied by a male juvenile, collided with a tree on the sidewalk. Sadly, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The car’s discovery as an unreported stolen vehicle raised questions about the circumstances of the accident. The teenage driver sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was arrested. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once the next of kin is notified.

The streets of San Jose have seen too much tragedy this year. Sadly, this incident marks the 33rd fatal collision and the 34th traffic death of 2023. These numbers are not just statistics, they represent lost lives and grieving families. This was also the 19th pedestrian death of the year.
