Pedestrian Struck in Hit and Run Accident in San Jose Resulting in Death

A tragic hit-and-run accident in San Jose has left a mother and her dog dead, and the victim’s daughter injured. Police identified the driver responsible as Silvia Solorio, a 27-year-old woman from Santa Clara. According to reports, Solorio was driving her Honda sedan on Blossom Hill Road when she struck the mother, daughter, and their dog as they were crossing the street in a marked crosswalk. The driver immediately fled the scene, leaving the victims to deal with the devastating aftermath. Solorio’s vehicle was identified through innovative Automatic License Plate Reader technology, and police were able to track her down with the help of surveillance footage. As they urged her to turn herself in, the community waited anxiously for news of her arrest.

Ultimately, Solorio was taken into custody and now faces charges of felony vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run. While she remains behind bars on $111,000 bail, the community is left to navigate the aftermath of this senseless tragedy. Elizabeth McCoy, a resident of the neighborhood where it happened, expressed her empathetic sentiments by saying, “Just to think of the poor daughter losing her mom, is just too much.” San Jose Mayor, Matt Mahan, wrote a heartfelt message of support for the family who lost their loved one while simply walking their dog and following all the rules of the road. This tragic incident marked San Jose’s fourth pedestrian fatality of 2023. As the police department continues to investigate, Detective Bowen of the San Jose Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit is urging anyone with information to come forward.
