Tragic Collision Claims Life of 85 Year Old Pedestrian in Santa Clara 

Tragic news struck Santa Clara on the evening of July 28, 2023, when an 85-year-old resident lost his life in an unfortunate traffic accident. According to a press release from the Santa Clara Police Department, the victim was struck by a pick-up truck at the intersection of Homestead Road and Maryann Drive, leading to his fatal injuries. The incident was reported by a witness at around 8:48 p.m., and responders from the Santa Clara fire and police departments arrived at the scene immediately to provide assistance. Despite their courageous efforts, the man could not be saved, and he was pronounced deceased at the site of the accident.

The driver of the Toyota pick up truck, a 55-year-old male, from Cupertino, was traveling on Homestead Road. Tragically, he struck the victim from Santa Clara who was walking in the crosswalk. Despite the unfortunate incident, the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with SCPD investigators. Importantly, drugs and alcohol were not believed to be a factor in the collision.

Details of the incident were sparse, but SCPD Traffic and Crime Scene Investigators acted quickly, making sure to properly document the scene for future reference. As for the victim’s identity, it was withheld pending notification by the Santa Clara County – Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner.
