Living in Los Angeles
The City of Los Angeles is the cultural and commercial center of Southern California, with an estimated population of 3,976,322. That makes LA the second most populous city in the United States and the largest in California.
Los Angeles is served by a combination of bus, metro and light rail lines operated by the LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority with additional bus service provided by the LA Department of Transportation.
The city’s main attractions include the Hollywood sign, Grauman’s Chinese Theater, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Griffith Observatory, Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards, the Hollywood Bowl, Staples Center and Dodger Stadium.
Shocking Accident Statistics for Los Angeles
Every year roughly 50,000 people are injured in accidents on Los Angeles County streets. That includes more than 3,000 motorcyclists involved in collisions with other vehicles and 2,000+ bicyclists. In 2013 almost 30,000 victims were injured or killed in traffic accidents in the city of LA alone.
These avoidable accidents made up a sizeable portion of the 3 million plus emergency room visits in Los Angeles County hospitals—visits that cost victims, insurance companies, and tax payers billions.
The sad truth is that many of the traffic accidents in LA were not caused by the victims. They were caused by distracted drivers, aggressive maneuvers, unsafe speeding, failure to yield, and a host of other negligent behaviors that leave people broken, families struggling, and bank accounts empty.

Severe Injuries in Los Angeles Two-Car Collision
When two cars collided at a busy Los Angeles intersection, multiple people were injured. The accident took place at the intersection of Winnetka Avenue and Oxnard Street on the far northwest side of LA near Woodland Hills. The reporting police officer noted that the weather conditions were clear and the road was dry at about 9:30 a.m. on the Wednesday morning when the accident happened. He observed post-impact skid marks and tire scrub marks on the road surface, plus vehicle body debris in the roadway.
As the officer conducted his investigation, the drivers and passengers of both vehicles were on the way to the hospital by ambulance for their severe injuries. Further investigation revealed that the driver of the first vehicle had been transporting people to an adult daycare at the time of the accident.
The first vehicle’s driver said she had the green light on Winnetka Avenue when she collided with the other vehicle. The second vehicle’s driver said she had been stopped at a red light on Oxnard Street, then when the light turned green and she proceeded forward, the other vehicle struck her.
A witness who was three to five car lengths behind the accident told the police officer that he observed the first vehicle run the red light. The officer noted that the skid marks from the accident appeared to support this observation. He cited the first vehicle’s driver under California Vehicle Code 21453 (a) for running a red light.
What would you do if you were injured in a collision like this? Good news: You can seek compensation from the other driver for your injuries – even if you share partial blame for the accident!
Here at Sally Morin Personal Injury Lawyers, we’ve seen all kinds of vehicle accidents with severe injuries. If you’ve been injured, talk to us about seeking high-dollar compensation from the person who hurt you. Contact us for a free consultation about your crash case. We’re here to help you!
Four Cars Damaged in Chain Reaction Collision on LA’s I-405 Freeway
When a police officer arrived at the scene of an accident on the I-405 near Santa Monica Boulevard, it was about 5:02 p.m. during Wednesday evening’s rush hour. The officer interviewed four drivers involved in a multi-car rear-end crash.
The first driver, who had been driving his Toyota Camry southbound on the freeway, said he was behind a Toyota Corolla when it suddenly braked hard and came to a complete stop. His Camry hit the Corolla from behind.
The Corolla’s driver said he’d been slowing to 5 to 10 miles per hour for stopped traffic ahead when the Camry hit him from behind. This caused him to be pushed ahead into traffic, where he hit a third vehicle from behind.
The third vehicle’s driver, and also a fourth vehicle’s driver, told the officer similar stories of being hit from behind in the chain-reaction collision. All four drivers sustained vehicle damage but had no obvious bodily injury.
Ultimately, the officer cited the Camry driver under California Vehicle Code 22350 for driving at an unsafe speed for traffic conditions. CVC 22350 states, “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.”
After a chain-reaction accident like this, it’s your right under California law to demand compensation from the driver who set off the crash. Talk to Sally Morin Personal Injury Lawyers about a free consultation to seek high-dollar compensation. We’re here to help you!
Two-Car Collision Leaves Three People Injured in Northeast Los Angeles
A poor assumption led to a two-car collision at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Selma Avenue in northeast Los Angeles. It was the first day of March at about 9:15 a.m. on a clear morning. Both cars had been traveling in opposite directions on Highland just before the accident.
According to the police officer’s report, the first driver said she was preparing to make a turn onto Selma Avenue and thought the other driver was going to slow down for her to turn. She told the officer she understood that the other driver had the right of way.
The second driver told the officer that he had the right of way on a green light and wasn’t slowing down for the other driver, who hit him. A witness confirmed this version of the accident.
After the collision, both of the drivers and a passenger in the first vehicle complained of bodily injuries including head pain, neck pain, and hand pain. The officer ultimately cited the first vehicle’s driver under CVC 21801(a) for failure to yield the proper right of way during a turn.
What if you were injured in an accident like this? It’s your right under California law to demand compensation from a negligent driver whose choices cause you injury. Talk to Sally Morin Personal Injury Lawyers about a free consultation to seek high-dollar compensation. We’re here to help you!
Why You Need an Experienced Injury Lawyer on Your Side
After an accident it’s tempting to take the first compensation you’re offered. In fact, you may even believe that an insurance adjuster has your best interest at heart. Your life has been turned upside down, you’re probably in pain, you’re definitely worried about your financial situation and how being out of work is affecting your family. A Los Angeles personal injury accident is a stressful situation and under all that pressure it can be nearly impossible to make a well-thought-out decision.
- First of all, insurance adjusters are employed to look out for the company’s bottom line. That means they’ll use anything you’ve said to them against you. It also means offering you as little financial compensation as possible to resolve the claim. You may be entitled to more.
- Secondly, trying to navigate a complicated legal system without experience on your side can be disastrous. The amount of evidence and paperwork involved to prove your case can be tremendous and errors made in the filing of that paperwork can mean costly delays or even having your entire case dismissed.
- Lastly, you shouldn’t have to do all the hard work yourself. You’ve been injured by another person’s negligence or reckless behavior. It’s put tremendous stress on you and your family and the last thing you need is to add to that burden. Sally Morin and her team of experienced personal injury attorneys in Los Angeles, CA. can ensure you get the compensation you’re entitled to with the minimum of disruption to your recovery process.
