Six People Injured on the area of Lombard and Fillmore Streets

On Saturday morning, a collision between a car and a MUNI bus caused traffic delays in the area of Lombard and Fillmore Streets. According to the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management, officers responded to the scene at around 11:03 a.m. and found that multiple vehicles were involved in the collision. Six people were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and the suspected driver is detained. Eric Kingsbury, who was in the area at the time of the collision, said that he heard the impact from across the street. “It was so loud, you could hear multiple crunches. This was not a fender bender,” he said.  Kingsbury says the force of the impact was so great that the bus did a full 180. Immediately, Kingsbury and his girlfriend rushed back to the scene to see if they could help. Kingsbury spoke with three pedestrians who were in the crosswalk when they heard a horn honking and someone yelling before running out of the street. Multiple pedestrians and bus riders were injured in the collision. Kingsbury says he saw one little girl with lacerations on her face who was shaking and couldn’t speak. “There was another girl that was blonde with red streaks in her hair… it wasn’t until later I realized the red streaks were from the blood,” Kingsbury tells KRON4.

Jaime Schilling was out walking her dog when she witnessed a white SUV speeding down Lombard street, running a red light. The driver then lost control and crashed into oncoming traffic. Schilling told KRON4 that the driver was going 60-80 mph and weaving in and out of traffic before the crash. Videos from Citizen show firefighters and medical personnel treating injured parties on the ground. Drivers were encouraged to avoid Lombard and Fillmore streets as traffic was slowed due to the incident. Luckily, no fatalities have been reported. According to the San Francisco Police Department, a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving without a driver’s license, causing bodily injury while under the influence, reckless driving, speeding, and failure to stop at a traffic signal. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and start the message with SFPD.
