Car Accident Victim Killed on the Matilda Avenue off-ramp
Early Saturday morning, a deadly crash occurred on Highway 101 that involved a Jeep Wrangler, a Toyota Prius, and a Chevy Camaro. The accident occurred near the Matilda Avenue off-ramp, and as a result of the crash, the Jeep Wrangler flipped over. Both the driver and the passenger in the Wrangler were able to get out of the vehicle safely. However, two female passengers who were standing outside of the Prius were struck by the Camaro and sustained fatal injuries. The 40-year-old woman was thrown into the center lane of 101 on the northbound side, while the 22-year-old woman was struck in the roadway.
The 40-year-old woman was killed in a three-car collision on Highway 101. The driver of the Camaro that hit her was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while the drivers of the Prius and Wrangler that were involved in the crash were arrested on suspicion of DUI. This collision is still under investigation by CHP. This crash is just one of two fatal collisions that occurred on Bay Area freeways late Friday into early Saturday morning. A separate traffic fatality involving a vehicle and a pedestrian occurred Friday night around 11 p.m. on eastbound Highway 24 in Orinda. The fatal crash caused all four lanes to shut down. All lanes were back open at 3:59 a.m., according to CHP.
